Need+to+wrap+something+really+big%3F

ViewSource Media has just completed a wrap - a VERY BIG wrap! We're not talking birthday presents here. We recently designed, produced and installed vehicle wraps on two large trailers for an oil patch service company in Calgary, Alberta.

Our existing client, Tribal North Energy Services, wanted to increase their brand visibility in the highly competitive oilfield service sector. The Tribal North team had two new custom trailers in design stage that needed paint colours. When they called us we suggested adding graphics to really boost visual impact.

The process involved a coordinated effort with both the fabricator and our client. First, we needed drawings from the fabrication plant. When those drawings arrived we realized just how big these trailers were – over fifty feet long!

We gave Tribal North some rough costs for getting their brand on a canvas that large. Going for something that maximized visual impact and showcased the Tribal North logo were really important. We considered two options, cut vinyl graphics applied over paint or, a full printed graphic wrap. When our design team sent ideas and explained the different looks, it was decided the best "bang for the buck" would be the full graphic wrap.

Going with a printed wrap gave us the flexibility to put any image we wanted on these trailers. The team felt keeping things conservative was appropriate so we used a colour scheme straight from the brand specifications. Since Tribal North already had several marketing pieces in place we incorporated graphic elements from those in the design for the trucks.

Great care was taken to ensure that none of the critical visuals would be disturbed by physical elements on the trailers. This was difficult because things were changing on the fly during fabrication. When the trucks finally rolled out of the plant for testing, a set of photos was sent to us so we could match our artwork to the reality of the final trailers. After a few last minute modifications to the artwork to accommodate changes in the final trailer, the printing process started.

Several proofs were checked for patterns, clarity, colour and texture. Once these were signed off, the full-size panels were put into production. When the large panels were laid out for final inspection, it was apparent that the impact the client was after would definitely be there. The ability to add texture and depth to the graphics by using the printed panels really helped give it visual pop. The logo and large swoops on the side looked like they were floating six inches off the side of the truck!

The client is really pleased with the results. "The new Unit came off the yard on Friday – looks great! Thank for your efforts in creating an impactful design."

Whether rolling down the highway or parked at the rig site, these trailers are impossible to miss and help keep the Tribal North name front and centre when potential clients are looking for a service company.
